Erg Chech 002 (1.49g) Thin Slice!

$149.00

1.49 gram specimen of Erg Chech 002, found in 2020 and classified as an ungrouped achondrite. What makes this particular meteorite so interesting is that scientific analysis found this material is the oldest volcanic rock in the solar system found to date. Researchers believe this material likely originated on a planetesimal approximately 4.5 BILLION YEARS AGO! In other words, EC002 is volcanic rock from a baby planet that never made it to adulthood.

This specimen is a very thinly sliced piece with some translucent green pyroxene crystals. I will admit, the original cutter didn’t do the best job removing the saw marks, but this slice has nice surface area and is a good representative specimen of this rare piece of cosmic history.

You will receive the specimen shown in the photos along with a signed identification card guaranteeing authenticity.
